Artist - Billie waters

Oil on gesso prepared board   18 x 26 inch and presented in its original off white hand made and gesso prepared artists frame.

"Abstract Cornish Landscape." circa 1950

This painting is far from the more representational early work produced by this artist. It has weathered colours and texture where surfaces are scrapped and dragged over gesso prepared board. It shouts empathy with the coastal Cornish landscape that she loved and shows clear influence from her great friends Wilhelmina Barns-Graham and Ben Nicholson. In deed there is a very similar image in the Barns-Graham archive that was exhibited at the Tate St Ives in 2017. These pieces from this era of her output are rare and very sought after and a similar image was sold by Paisnel Gallery , London in their Spring 2016 exhibition " St Ives & Post War" and featured on the catalogue cover.

Provenance
A very rare and sought after work from the artists desirable post war and war time output. This  comes from a private London collector who has reduced her collection following a move to the country . Originally purchased in the 1980's from a small art dealership it still bears the hand written label verso.
